What makes an enterprise XR development company worth hiring

Choosing an enterprise XR development service provider usually comes down to three things: who is accountable when the build and the content disagree, what happens when the hardware changes, and whether you can find out the price without a discovery call.

The seam is where projects fail

Most XR programmes are split — an agency writes the training, a dev shop builds the app. Every defect then lands in the gap between them. We hold both, so the storyboard, the scoring rubric and the code are written by people in the same standup.

Not only headset work

We build AR on tablets and phones, VR in Unity and Unreal, WebXR in the browser, native iOS and Android apps, web applications and ordinary business software. A smart XR developer will tell you when the answer is a tablet, not a headset. Sometimes the answer is a web form.

Hardware-neutral by default

Meta stopped selling commercial Quest SKUs in February 2026, ended the three-year enterprise warranty, and put Horizon Managed Services into maintenance mode until January 2030. Programmes built to one vendor's roadmap are now stranded. We build so the content outlives the device.

What we actually build

Custom XR app developers for enterprise are usually specialists in one runtime. We are not. The delivery format is chosen after we understand the task, because the task is the thing that decides it.

VR training modules

Unity and Unreal builds for standalone headsets and desktop. Guided teach mode, a scored assessment mode against a rubric, hand tracking or controllers, and progress reporting into your LMS.

AR for field and factory

Overlays and guided procedures on the tablet or phone a technician already carries. Useful where the work happens in front of real equipment and a headset would be in the way.

WebXR and browser 3D

Experiences that open from a link on laptop, phone or headset — nothing to install, no app store, no per-seat licence. The cheapest distribution route by a wide margin.

Mobile and web applications

Native iOS, cross-platform iOS and Android, web apps, portals and internal tools. Plenty of enterprise problems that arrive framed as "we need XR" are really a scheduling app with a 3D viewer in it.

360° capture modules

Photo-real site walkthroughs with pass/fail hotspots, defect identification and per-scene questions. Three to four weeks, and unbeatable for teaching what wrong looks like.

AI agents and coaching

Conversational practice with a scorecard, AI-driven NPCs inside a scenario, or an agent wired into your own systems and documents. Speech in, speech out, objectives tracked.

How a project runs

Measured from our own delivery history, not estimated: a Unity build takes about twelve weeks. A teach module is about eleven. A matching test or assessment mode built on the same scene adds about five. A 360° module is three to four weeks.

Storyboard first, always

Before anyone writes code you get an interactive storyboard — every scene, every interaction, every line of voiceover, in a browser your SMEs can comment on directly. Nothing is built until you have signed it off.

Greybox build

A playable version with placeholder art, so the flow can be tested and corrected while changes are still cheap. This is where most of the rework happens, deliberately, before the art budget is spent.

Art, audio and interaction detail

Final 3D assets, voiceover and the fine interaction work. Your equipment and your environment, modelled from your CAD or from site photography, optimised to run at frame rate on the target device.

UAT, deployment and handover

One structured round of user acceptance testing, then deployment to your hosting or ours, LMS integration, and the source. Additional scope is quoted separately rather than absorbed silently and billed later.

Enterprise XR pricing

These are the numbers we quote. There is no platform fee, no per-seat licence and no annual subscription — enterprise XR platform pricing is a model we deliberately do not use. You are buying an application.

Procurement, security and IP

The technical scope is rarely what delays an enterprise project. Vendor onboarding is. Here is where we stand before you ask.

Security review

We complete your vendor security questionnaire, sign your NDA and work inside your review process. Builds can be hosted by us, by you, or shipped as an offline headset package with no network dependency at all. Where we cannot meet a control, we say so rather than tick the box.

IP ownership

Client-specific content is yours — scenarios, scripts, your equipment models, the deployed application. MadXR retains only its general-purpose tooling and frameworks, and grants you a licence to use them as embedded in the deliverable. No per-seat licence, no content held hostage on a platform.

Contracting and insurance

Mad XR LLC is a US entity and a woman-owned small business. We work under your MSA or ours, and supply W-9, certificates of insurance and supplier-portal onboarding as a matter of routine. Tell us what your system needs and we will fill it in.

Payment terms

30% at kickoff, 35% at UAT, 35% on final delivery. Net 60 is workable where that is your AP cycle, and progress-claim invoicing against a PO is normal for us. Raise the terms during contracting, not at the first invoice.

What does an enterprise XR development company do?

It builds the software, not just the content. For an enterprise programme that usually means a custom application — VR, AR, WebXR, mobile or desktop — plus the instructional design, the 3D art, the voiceover, the assessment logic and the LMS integration behind it. MadXR does all of it with one team on one contract. That is unusual: most custom XR app developers for enterprise build the application and expect you to bring the training, or write the training and subcontract the build.

How much does enterprise XR development cost?

MadXR publishes its prices. A simple interaction module is $30,000. A multi-step task training module is $40,000 to $45,000. A full scenario module with branching decisions is $50,000 to $60,000. A short interactive experience runs $5,000 to $10,000, an interactive LMS platform $10,000 to $15,000, an iOS app $20,000, cross-platform iOS and Android $30,000, and a custom AI agent starts at $15,000. Are you an offshore AR/VR development company?

No. Mad XR LLC is a US company, woman-owned, contracting under US law. The engineering team is distributed and includes developers outside the US, which is part of how the published prices stay where they are, but the contract, the IP assignment and the accountability sit with a US entity. Buyers looking for an offshore AR/VR development company for enterprise projects usually want the price without the exposure. This is what that looks like.

Who owns what you build, and what does procurement need from us?

Client-specific content — your scenarios, your equipment models, your scripts and the deployed application — belongs to you. MadXR retains only its general-purpose tooling and frameworks, and grants you a licence to use them as embedded in the deliverable. We complete vendor security questionnaires, sign NDAs, work under your MSA or ours, and supply W-9 and certificates of insurance for supplier onboarding. Our VR programme runs on Meta Quest. Does it still have a future?

Meta stopped selling commercial Quest SKUs in February 2026, ended the three-year enterprise warranty, and moved Horizon Managed Services into maintenance mode until January 2030. Existing headsets keep working, but the commercial support path is closing. That is a reason to keep new work hardware-neutral: a browser-based or cross-platform build runs on PICO, VIVE, desktop and tablet as well, including hardware that is not on sale yet. We still build native Unity and Unreal when the task genuinely needs it.
